God Created Man & Woman
Is there really a big difference between men and women? I mean we all kind of look the same physically with eyes, legs, fingers, etc. Obviously guys tend to have a deeper voice and I mean women can give birth, so we definitely aren’t the same, but what about our characteristics. Are there certain things men tend to do more than women? Does being a guy mean you are born with certain personality traits that women don’t have? Maybe by just being born a girl you are automatically smarter than if you were born male? Again these are a lot of what ifs and maybes, however, for today’s post I would like to share with you something that is very near and dear to my heart. It is called “ The Family: A Proclamation to the World” and was written by leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This statement was given as a declaration to the world as to what God states a family is and what individuals responsibilities are in the family unit.
First let us dive into the individual roles and characteristics that we were born with as females and males. The Proclamation states that, “all human beings—male and female—are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny. Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose.” So just from that alone we know that our gender at birth already gives us specific characteristics that are meant to help us throughout our existence. It also shares that, “we declare the means by which mortal life is created to be divinely appointed. We affirm the sanctity of life and of its importance in God’s eternal plan.” We obviously have a purpose here and are born with divine qualities. I believe that being married and starting a family is a large part of that purpose and a great way to distinguish those innate characteristics God has given to men & women.
What I am about to say next is not popular in today’s society and is a controversial topic, but it has a lot of power behind the God given roles as men and women, but also fathers and mothers. The article states that, “by divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children.” Fathers are to preside, love, provide, and protect for their families and mothers are to nurture. Now this may seem like a messed up way of thinking, but let us pull away from the Proclamation and look at “normal” characteristics of men & women. Men tend to be more open to exploring, determined, active, initiators, opportunists, aggressive, and competitive. Women on the other hand can be seen as more cooperative, compassionate, communicative, multi-taskers, secure, and stable. Now look at the differences between men & women and now ask yourself, doesn’t that make sense? Does it make sense that a man would be given the responsibility to provide for his family and the wife asked to nurture.
This makes so much sense to me because as men & women we are born with natural characteristics and personality traits that allow us to perform certain roles individually and compliment each other when married. I am not saying men and women are “stuck” to only these characteristics, we can develop all kinds of traits that make us all unique. What I am saying is that there is a reason God created men and women differently and a large purpose for that is the roles we each play in the family unit.
