Equality and Loyalty

 Ch. 4 & 6 Equal Partnership & Honoring Marital Vows

What does it mean to be equal? “Equality is all too often used to mean “identity”; that is, that two equal things must be identical to each other.” pg. 186 What would be the fun in that? Imagine living in a world where everyone was the same! We all had the same likes, dislikes, and did the same things everyday. That would be so boring. That would get old after a while! We NEED variety. We have been blessed with differences that make us beautiful and unique in our own way. These differences add to our relationships. Just because our roles as men and women can be different doesn't mean that one is better than the other. We are all equal in love. This kind of love comes from our Heavenly Father. Our identity is children of God. Our self worth is infinite! Men and women together are different but equal because equality does not mean identity. When we strive to have an equal partnership in our marriage, there is a bond of love that drives us to want to do and be better. We want to be loyal to our partner and honor the covenants we have made with them. I have witnessed families being destroyed due to infidelity because their hearts were set on everything other than their spouse. Satan wants to destroy families. If you give him a sliver, he will sneak his way to the whole piece! Infidelity in all its forms can be that piece. We must be careful not to lose sight of the one that truly matters.

  When you hear the word “family”, what image comes to your mind? Is it a mom & dad with kids, same-sex couple, a single lady with her cats, an older couple with their grandkids, or does your mind draw a blank? Well the definition of family has changed a lot over the years and the purpose of this post is not to define what a family is, but to get you thinking of all the variety of pieces that make up a family. Gain Knowledge

Before I dive into the main point of this blog today I’d like you to take a minute and write down a few bullet points about what you believe a family is. There is no right or wrong answer, just write down your beliefs or views on the topic. Then take another minute and write down how or where you got those beliefs from. When I did this I found that most of what I thought about the family unit came from religious teachings, personal experience, and likewise people confirming my thoughts. At first I was content with my knowledge and was not interested in learning about others perspectives or experiences. Not because I didn’t care, but because I didn’t find it relevant to me.
